The site at a glance
Frisia Zout is located in the Dutch province of Friesland and was founded in 1996 as Harlinger Zoutfabriek Frima. In 2000, the K+S Group acquired the plant and renamed it Frisia Zout.
Frisia Zout in Harlingen operates one of the deepest salt brines in the world - the caverns are located at a depth of 2,500 to 3,000 meters - the miner speaks of depth here. The brine, which is obtained by the borehole brine process, is processed into high-quality salt products for the European market in a modern five-stage evaporation plant.
In the borehole brine process, freshwater is discharged as planned into an underground salt dome via boreholes. As a result, the salt dissolves in the salt dome and the brine saturated with salt is extracted to the surface and further processed.
Frisia Zout is located directly in the Harlinger harbor on the North Sea coast and also has access to the entire European inland shipping network through a canal - a logistically advantageous location that supports a wide range of transportation options.
