Potassium is predominantly found within the body’s cells and is essential for proper cellular function. It helps regulate the osmotic pressure within cells, maintains their structural integrity, and is involved in enzyme activation as well as acid-base balance. As an electrolyte, potassium exists in the body in the form of dissolved ions and, together with sodium, plays a central role in the transmission of nerve impulses in muscle and nerve cells.
