Your Responsibilities
The Senior Rail Contracts Specialist - Logistics & Transportation will coordinate and oversee commercial side of the rail shipment of product from point of supply to the end user customer in Canada and the US. The individual will interact with various internal and external logistical and supply chain partners, including railways, loading facilities, storage and lease companies. The individual will coordinate the commercial needs of KSPC rail related tasks such as negotiating rail and storage rates with our service providers as per the needs of KSPC and local sales organization in the U.S. The individual will support the overview of the rail fleet and support the continuous check on rail car needs to arrange having sufficient rails cars for the upcoming production and destinations, keeping KPIs, cycle times and availabilities in consideration.
Responsibilities include and are not limited to:
An overall understanding of the global picture of KALI Sales goals and how KSPC fits into the global picture.
Support the development and maintenance of Logistics Plans.
Communicate effectively with all requisitioning departments and arrange for proper information exchanges.
Prepare and Support the process of establishing and finalization of long term railway related contracts while communicated with internal parties such as SK and SCM Kassel.
Maintain and distribute on a monthly basis, an accurate up to date rate / fuel database.
Develop and maintain a contract / rate expiry database.
Rate negotiation: minimize rate levels through effective leverage of traffic and products required.
Rate quoting: secure competitive freight rates on a timely basis as required.
Prepare and maintain monthly freight optimization documents and month over month year over year stats.
Audit rail related invoices for accuracy.
Commercially support the operational lead of the scheduling of train transports from mine site to port or domestic customers with the railway provider.
Pro-actively communicate delays in the supply chain or other time sensitive issues.
Ensure all relevant parties are aware of any changes to rail movement and storage rates and potential impact in change of service providers.
Ensure freight rates and upcoming rail related invoices and shopping carts are published prior to movement into SAP.
Support the analyzation of the railcar fleet (resource planning, plan and dispatch railcars, coordinate and manage railcar freight rates for maintenance activities if required).
Leasing of additional railcar equipment if required.
Oversee necessary customs regulations (i.e. for domestic US shipments).
Manage and resolve logistical claims with service providers / suppliers and advising and consulting the internal partners of the next steps to be taken.
Orchestrate annual review with key service providers.
Under the direction of senior management, support the identification of essential KPI’s and describe requirements for these KPI’s.
Monitor performance of service providers including service, pricing collaborative initiatives and other factors that impact the quality of the relationship. Reviews to be conducted annually and ranked year over year.
Make decisions that support the best interest of KSPC if service levels are not meeting needs of the organization.

Your Profile

Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in specialized rail transportation and logistics management is required. Candidates without rail experience will not be considered.
Additional general logistics experience is considered an asset.
Experience preferably in dry bulk commodity business (coal, potash, sulfur, grain).
Strong negotiation skills required.
Excellent knowledge of different provincial, state, local and federal authority requirements and be able to qualify carriers so that they are in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
German Language skills an asset.
Project management skills considered an asset.
SAP experience is required.
Employment is subject to successfully completing KSPC’s pre-employment checks which may include criminal record check, education verification, functional fitness evaluation and drug and alcohol testing.
