Your Responsibilities
This opportunity is a 8-month term from May – December 2026, on-site and may be based at the Bethune mine or Saskatoon head office.
Reporting to the Manager, Project Management Office (PMO), the Student, Business & Data Analytics (Capital Projects) will focus on leveraging technology and systems to build scalable and sustainable cost databases, data analysis processes, and analytical reports and dashboards. The role will support project controls by collecting, organizing, and analyzing cost and productivity data for cost estimating and benchmarking. In addition, the student will work closely with portfolio planning, operations, engineering, and program delivery teams to assist with project intake and portfolio analysis activities. This position provides practical experience applying technology and data analytics to business planning, project portfolio management, and project controls, while contributing to timely data-driven decision-making that continuously improves the organization’s resource utilization and capital efficiency. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Build and Maintain Cost Databases:
Gather and clean internal and external cost, quantity, and productivity data.
Create structured databases of unit costs, productivity rates, and historical metrics.
Update and maintain databases with new project results and verified information.
Perform Data Analysis:
Calculate and analyze trends, averages, benchmarks, and data variability to identify meaningful patterns and drivers.
Provide insights and actionable recommendations to support data-driven decision-making.
Identify potential efficiency and technology improvements including opportunities for ML/AI solutions where applicable.
Support Benchmarking and Estimate Validation:
Compare new cost information to historical benchmarks to identify gaps or variances.
Prepare comparison summaries, dashboards, or presentations highlighting key insights.
Assist cost estimators and cost controllers by providing reliable historical data and validation inputs.
Develop and Support Project Intake and Project Portfolio Planning Processes:
Gather and document business objectives, requirements, and drivers for proposed studies and projects.
Work with portfolio planning, operations, engineering, project services, and functional leads to complete and accurate information for project intake and prioritization.
Assist in developing business cases and support portfolio analysis to inform prioritization and optimization of the project portfolio.
Prepare Reports and Visual Summaries:
Create clear charts, tables, reports and dashboards using Excel and Power BI to improve visibility and support data-driven decision-making.
Present data in easy-to-understand formats to support estimating, cost analysis, and portfolio decision making.
Support Continuous Improvement:
Recommend and support improvements to data collection, automation and storage processes to increase efficiency
Document workflows, templates, and standards to ensure consistent and scalable use and management of cost data.

Currently completing post secondary program in Applied Computing, Business/Data Analytics, Engineering.
Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
Proficiency using Microsoft 365 tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, SharePoint, Teams) to support data analysis, reporting, and system development.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly.
Eagerness to learn and develop within a fast-paced project environment.
Basic knowledge of project management, project controls, and portfolio analysis concepts.
Possess strong business and financial acumen, with the ability to understand how data supports strategic decision-making.
Demonstrated interest or experience with continuous improvement. Process optimization or data- driven problem solving (through coursework, projects or work experience).
Strong problem solving skills and ability to think at a systems level, connecting data, process and business outcomes.
