K+S is the main sponsor of this year's Global Goals Yearbook entitled "Planet under Pressure". The Global Goals Yearbook is a publication designed to support the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations, also known as Global Goals, and to promote the sustainability of companies worldwide. In it, K+S presents the crowdsourcing project "Brine Challenge" to an international audience.
The 2020s are the make-or-break decade for Sustainability. But Covid-19 questions almost everything. How can we handle increasingly frequent shocks? What can a resilient society and economy that is in line with planetary boundaries look like? These and many other questions are discussed in the new 2020 edition of the Global Goals Yearbook.
After the foreword by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the first part of the book discusses numerous major issues for world development. For example, a lively discussion with Emily Auckland (UKSSD), Julian Hill-Landolt (WBCSD), Maja Goepel (Scientists for Future) and Pietro Bertazzi (CDP) clearly shows the connection between sustainability, crisis, reconstruction and pitfalls. Or an exclusive interview with EU Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni, who is responsible for both economic affairs and SDGs, sheds light on the link between society, the economy and the environment.
The second part of the Global Goals Yearbook presents good examples of companies. Here, K+S clearly shows that innovations are indispensable for finding sustainable solutions to current challenges. Crowdsourcing is a suitable method in this context because it uses the "wisdom of the many". K+S has used it to find new ideas and innovative proposals for dealing with tailings pile water.
K+S has signed the United Nations Global Compact in 2015. We thus support the ten principles of the Global Compact in the areas of human rights, labour standards, environmental protection and combating corruption.
Companies are an important partner in achieving the 17 goals for sustainable development (SDGs), and K+S is also actively involved in this area. It is about the "Transformation of our world: the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development". The K+S Group evaluates current corporate activities with regard to the SDGs and also takes the SDGs into account strategically within the framework of the sustainability goals. K+S acknowledges that the SDGs and targets are integrated and indivisible. With our commitment, we make a contribution to the SDGs.
