Higher CATSAN® Production in Bad Salzdetfurth

MARS and K+S are continuing their successful cooperation

Kassel, 14.02.2019
At the end of January, the US company MARS and K+S, extended their cooperation in the production of CATSAN® cat litter by a further ten years.

"We are very pleased that we will now be continuing the cooperation on a long-term basis with our partner MARS, which has lasted for more than 25 years”, says Mark Roberts, Chief Operating Officer of K+S. “This is also good news for our approximately 120 employees at the Bad Salzdetfurth site."

A second production line for the manufacture of CATSAN® is to be built at the Bad Salzdetfurth site (south of Hanover, Lower Saxony) by the end of 2019. This will increase annual production capacity by about 40 percent. In addition, the storage capacities there are to be more than tripled. To this end, an automatic high-bay warehouse with space for 14,000 pallets is currently being built, the largest of its kind in the K+S Group in Europe.

Since the beginning of the cooperation in 1992, the plant has produced more than 3.5 million tons of cat litter. In addition to the core European market, customers in faraway countries such as Abu Dhabi and Australia are also supplied from here.

The CATSAN® production in Bad Salzdetfurth is regarded as a successful example of the reutilization of a potash plant after mining has ceased. K+S uses large parts of the above-ground infrastructure to granulate the well-known animal hygiene product CATSAN® for MARS.
