The portfolio of K+S salt products includes rock, sea, and evaporated salt in various grain sizes. They are available with or without iodine, enriched with fluoride and folic acid as well as with herbs and spices. Here you can see where our products come from and how the various deposits make the difference.
More than 250 million years ago, large parts of Europe were covered by the so-called Zechstein Sea - a huge, salt-laden inland sea. Earth displacement and sedimentation by alluvial layers of soil ensured that a precious layer of salt lies deep underground today. Under our premium brand SALDORO, we market this pure, unrefined rock salt as Ursalz. A special feature: We have unique, rare pink deposits in Germany that are sold as SALDORO Ursalz.
One of the places where our sea salt is extracted is in 2500 hectares of salt marshes in the Iberian Natural Park. Heat, sun, wind, and drought are important climatic conditions for salt extraction. The sea water is channeled into shallow basins and dries out naturally and slowly thanks to climatic factors. What remains are salt crystals, which are then traditionally hand-harvested by salt farmers.
For the production of evaporated salt, the salty water from salt mines, the so-called brine, is evaporated. The brine is boiled in large, closed containers, where the water evaporates and salt crystals form. The resulting salt slurry is skimmed off, and the evaporated salt obtained is dried, sieved and further processed into our K+S evaporated salts.
At the Saldoro Summer BBQ, selected bloggers were invited to the grill with star chef Björn Moschinski to conjure up the perfect vegan 6-course Summer BBQ menu with our natural Saldoro Ur- und Meersalz.
The company has had it's employee concerns relating the production of high-purity salts audited at the Werra, Zielitz, Borth, Bernburg and Frisia Zout production sites as part of an external SMETA audit.
K+S salts are certified in accordance with international standards and norms. Here you will find the current certificates of the K+S Minerals & Agriculture subsidiary.
