What you can expect in our webinar

Climate change results in new challenges for plant production. Among others, plant growth and productivity is seriously limited due to heat stress combined with high light, even in moderate climate zones. A balanced plant nutrition can mitigate the adverse effects of climate change. Recent research shows that, in particular, potassium and magnesium play key roles in the mitigation of heat and high light stress in plants. Under low supply of magnesium or potassium, capacity of plants to use absorbed light energy in photosynthesis is diminished which leads to activation of oxygen to highly toxic oxygen species (i.e. hydrogen peroxide) which damage leaf cells and their functions, in particular under heat stress.

In this webinar, Prof. Ismail Cakmak from Sabanci University Istanbul in Turkey, will talk about recent findings and important facts related to the roles of potassium and magnesium in heat and high light stress in crop plants. Applying this critical knowledge in practice will help to minimize yield losses in crop plants.
