Your Responsibilities
Reporting to the Production Improvement Coordinator, Utilities, the Student, Operator (Power) will be a part of the production team responsible for the safe operation of the Utilities Department. The successful applicant will be participating in the operation of Boilers, Gas Turbine Generators, Tank Farm, Site Utilities, and balance of plant assets. Additional responsibilities include:
Monitor standard operating conditions, review field alarms, adjust set-points, and verify that operating parameters remain within specified ranges
Troubleshoot and analyze process upsets to support optimal production
Record operational data in Shift Logs to support effective cross-shift communication
Clearly communicate field observations to Panel/Field Operators and the Shift Supervisor
Coordinate with other process areas to maintain stable facility operations and report any process disturbances
Conduct routine equipment and process inspections in the Boiler Plant, Gas Turbine, and Tank Farm areas
Support the isolation and lockout of process equipment for maintenance, and assist with safe equipment re-commissioning
Maintain high housekeeping standards through regular area cleanup and by addressing minor maintenance and reliability tasks
Follow all applicable Work Instructions, Standard Operating Procedures, Lockout Lists, and Commissioning Procedures

Currently enrolled in a Power Engineering post-secondary program at an accredited institution
Committed to returning to full-time studies
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including Excel and Word
Strong time management skills with a desire to further develop in this area

Able to read and understand technical instructions, documents, and procedures
Responds well to uncertainty and adapts effectively to change
Identifies and mitigates risks within the work area

This position will be required to climb stairs and may be required to work in hot humid conditions as well as outdoors during hot/cold weather conditions. The position will require manual effort i.e. : turning valves and periodic lifting of materials.
Employment is subject to successfully completing KSPC’s pre-employment checks which may include criminal record check, education verification, functional fitness evaluation and drug & alcohol testing.
This position is a 4-month student term (May 2026 - August 2026) located at the Bethune mine site.
