Reporting to Sr. Manager, Resource Sustainability, you support in monitoring and analyzing the North American energy market. This position is also responsible for proactively researching energy and Environment Social Governance (ESG) trends and emerging energy technologies, which could be potentially incorporated into KSPC Bethune mine’s process. The position will collaborate with other departments to build upon relationships with Crown utility and industry colleagues and will assist with regulatory consultations, lobby efforts, and government incentive applications. The analyst may represent KSPC in industry association meetings and Crown utility working groups. The Energy Analyst will work collaboratively across the company (e.g., with Site Operations, Projects and Technology, Environmental, Legal, Communications, Corporate Affairs, Finance, etc.) to help develop, refine, and implement an integrated and coordinated sustainability plan on an ongoing basis. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Build and maintain daily position and pricing spreadsheets which can be used for risk analysis, Mark-to Market and P/L calculations, and forecasting
Monitor, analyze and record short, medium, and long-term supply and demand drivers impacting natural gas and power prices
Analyze and report on market drivers across Western Canadian natural gas and power markets, including the identification and impact of structural changes to transport, supply and demand markets affecting the short, medium, and long-term pricing
Support KSPC’s hedging strategy through critically thoughtful analysis and advice
Develop ad hoc analysis and reporting as required
Develop and maintain weekly/monthly key performance indicator and financial analysis data/reports
Provide strategic analysis and financial modelling of various capital investments in emissions-reducing technologies and projects
Contribute to development of reporting dashboards and identify opportunities for improvement
Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of a gas trading system
Assist in researching government incentive programs and related requirements; provide support for relevant application submissions, as applicable
Actively support all business units to help drive the effective selection, development, implementation and integration of analytics and KPIs to optimize business activities and develop meaningful business intelligence/reporting
Review and identify energy invoicing and delivery discrepancies, perform all necessary investigation, and resolve disputes relating to the confirmations and accounting process for natural gas transactions
Evaluate strategies, technologies, partnerships, and business models to achieve company greenhouse gas emission reduction targets
Help to identify and prioritize areas for company sustainability efforts and recommend strategies for proactively addressing relevant environmental, social, and governance risks and opportunities in the short, medium, and long term
Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of KSPC’s Energy Management system, continuously looking for areas of improvement, while monitoring and reporting data

Bachelor’s Degree in Business and / or Economics (or related field)
3-5 years of technical experience in an Energy-related or financial data analysis role
Strong computer and analytical skills, including advanced proficiency in MS Office
Must be able to think critically and problem solve
Ability to interface well with other internal departments and outside customers
Exhibits strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills
Ability to adapt to different management, communication, and delivery styles for different situations as needed
The preferred location of this position is Saskatoon however, this position could work out of our Bethune location. Flexible work arrangement may be considered.
