Stephan Sickel is great! K+S provides Germany's best mining technologist

12-16-2019
300,000 trainees take their IHK examination every year. 206 of them - just 0.07 percent - have earned a special top performance in their training occupation this year. Stephan Sickel, who is now Germany's best mining technologist, is one of the best in his class.

24-year-old Stephan Sickel was trained as a mining technologist at the Neuhof-Ellers plant of K+S Minerals and Agriculture GmbH. And like so many of his colleagues, he burns for his profession: "My father is also active in the mining industry and, at the age of 16, made it possible for me to do an internship underground," reports Sickel. "When I first entered the company, it was clear that I wanted to work in mining."

This decision, his passion and, not least, his extraordinary success certainly pleased his father - and also his employer K+S: "We at the site are extremely proud and happy that Mr. Sickel wants to shape his professional future with us," says Tino Kister, Human Resources Manager at the Neuhof-Ellers plant.

High priority

Together, Sickel and Kister took part in the National Best Ceremony at the Maritim Hotel Berlin. This once again left no doubt about the importance of vocational training in Germany. Because prominent representatives of DIHK (Deutscher Industrie- und Handelskammertag), politics and show business congratulated the young people on their commitment and success: Anja Karliczek, the Federal Minister of Education and Research, delivered the speech; Barbara Schöneberger moderated the event and DIHK President Eric Schweitzer honoured the best of the year. Afterwards they went to the After-Show-Party, because it is well known that successes have to be celebrated.
