Miner Ansgar Sichler honored with Werner Award

Ansgar Sichler, who comes from a musical family (his father Elmar led the Wintershall miners' band for many years) and makes music himself, convinced the jury with good grades, his diploma thesis on "Pipelining in the Bethune mine" and his commitment as president of the SPE Student Chapter Freiberg, where he organized an excursion to the USA, for example, and at the institute, e.g. in the support of foreign students.

At the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, the 27-year-old Sichler studied geotechnics and mining, specialising in deep drilling technology, as part of K+S StudiumPlus. Previously, from 2011 to 2014, hel had completed an apprenticeship as a mining technologist specialising in deep drilling technology at the Werra plant. After having been employed as a trainee from November 2018 for six months as a pit foreman at the Werra plant and then for three months in Bernburg, he is currently an employee on the staff of the Hattorf-Wintershall (HW) mine. 

 "For me, there is nothing more beautiful and fascinating than the profession of a miner," says Sichler with conviction. "I love it because of its diversity and variety." His statement is made even more credible by the fact that Sichler had already started an apprenticeship at the tax office before he became a mining technologist and found that this was not the right thing for him. He put aside arguments from his environment that the mining profession had no future - and proved that if you find something you enjoy and are passionate about, you will be successful.
