Business trainee at K+S – Trainee Laura reports
Laura completed the Business Trainee Program at K+S. In this article, she shares with us what motivated her to do the program and what experience she has gained.
1. When did you start at K+S and how would you describe your work?
Since October 2017, I have been working as a Business Trainee in Finance, Accounting & Controlling at K+S. The program started at the headquarter in Kassel. For the next three months the department of treasury was my first workplace. Treasury is responsible for the financial management of the K+S Group. From the management of liquidity and payment transactions through the conclusion of forward transactions for currency risk hedging to the optimal structuring of the financing and cash investment structure. During my assignment, I was taught all the principles and responsibilities in the area of financial management. My area of responsibility ranges from regular, independent tasks, like the future transactions under the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR), the weekly preparation of an overflow of expiring foreign exchange transactions or the cooperation in the establishment of SAP financial transactions at K+S Chile. Moreover, there are also time-consuming tasks such as the preparation of an overview of obligations arising from existing bond indentures, bonded loans and loan agreements.
Currently, I am employed at the subsidiary company esco – european salt company GmbH & Co. KG (now K+S Minerals and Agriculture GmbH) in Hannover. In the area of controlling, I support my colleagues in their daily work and projects.
2. Beside your satisfaction with the Trainee Program, is there anything else that motivates you for your work?
Yes! It is the good working atmosphere, which is mainly created through the motivation to work of my colleagues. There you automatically go along with. Moreover, the tasks are also very exciting and diverse, which motivates me even more.
The reason I started a K+S-Business Trainee Program was the very attractive location in Kassel, where it is possibly to gain a lot of practical experience in a short time and to build up a broad network within the company. In addition, K+S is a very reputable and popular employer in the region.
3. What advantages does K+S offer you?
Many positive aspects have already been mentioned above, which are definitely not self-evident for a trainee program (and also in general). It should be also added that as a trainee of K+S you are quickly delegated responsibilities for tasks and projects.
4. What goals do you have for your future career at K+S?
Of course, I would like to stay within the company and take over a job with interesting and challenging tasks.
Thank you for the interview!
